Helpful Hints

Do:

• Pump your septic tank every 3 years
• Have your septic system inspected
• Use water conserving fixtures
• Take short showers instead of baths
• Load dishwasher & laundry full
• Repair leaky faucets & toilets
• Locate your septic system
• Maintain a record of all repairs
• Install aerators in your faucets
• Eliminate garbage disposal use

Don’t:

• Plant trees & shrubs over your septic system
• Use caustic drain openers
• Drive over your septic system
• Use harsh cleaners
• Flush paint, oil or hazardous chemicals, cat liter, diapers or coffee grounds
• Use commercial septic tank additives
• Connect downspouts or sump pumps to your septic system
• Enter your septic tank
