More Trail, Parking at Forrest Meadow Park
A new half-mile trail and parking lot at Forrest Meadow Park were completed by the township Public Works Department in the first half of 2007. The work included stormwater facilities associated with the parking lot which, once parking lines are painted, will accommodate 48 vehicles plus 4 handicapped vehicles. Both walkers and cyclists quickly put the new trail to good use.
Work will continue throughout 2007 and into 2008, where a multi-use field, playground equipment, and a pavilion will be installed. Seeding of the field, located along Fourth Street adjacent to the trail, will take place this fall.
Park development funds come primarily from state grants from the PA Department of Conservation and National Resources and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. Thanks go to State Rep. Bob Godshall for his help in obtaining supplemental funding for the pavilion.
Township officials are excited about providing this park for the Franconia community, and invite residents to visit.
The trail stretches for a half-mile around the perimeter of the park along Fourth Street and then weaves back through the wooded area. It continues along the tree line, wrapping around the Forrest Road perimeter and ending at the parking lot. Trees and shrubbery will be added along the trail and plantings will be installed around the parking lot. The trail also has the option of continuing into the Forrest View Development and entering the interior trail system of that development. Walkers also may tie into the sidewalk on Fourth Street from the trail.
